Former St. Peter Presbyterian Church attendee Dennis Cochran, also known as "Dennis the Poet," has written some new lyrics for Alison Krauss' tune, The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn. He's entitled his new song, The Boor Who Wound Up Defrocked, in honor of the defrocking of his former pastors RC Sproul Jr and Laurence Windham by the Reformed Presbyterian Church General Assembly (RPCGA).
RC Sproul, Jr. and Laurence Windham were pastors at St. Peter Presbyterian Church in Mendota Virginia and Bristol Virginia. Like so many other victims of RC Sproul Jr.'s slanders, Dennis Cochran was smeared in a "slanderfest" as "The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn" in the May/June 2004 edition of the Highland's Study Center publication Every Thought Captive. Dennis was caricatured in a very mocking fashion on the front cover of that Every Thought Captive edition.
It's no secret that one of RC Sproul Jr's favorite musical artists is Alison Krauss, and so this musical tribute is particularly fitting.
The last stanza in The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn goes:
"He turned his back and walked away.
Sayin: 'Little miss, you'll rue the day.
'You'll rue the day that you were born.
'For givin' me the devil 'cos I wouldn't hoe'."
We might change that last part to:
"RC Jr you'll rue the day you were born.
'For givin' Dennis Cochran the devil 'cos he wouldn't hoe corn."
Like so many others, Dennis Cochran was "lured" to Bristol, Virginia by RC's teaching, particularly through the Basement Tapes. But after a brief time at St. Peter Presbyterian Church, Dennis became of the opinion that RC Sproul Jr. and Laurence Windham were cult leaders, and that St. Peter wasn't a Presbyterian Church, but a cult.
So, hit the print key, then take the wife out on a date to the local karaoke bar, and have some fun!
Tell you a little story and it left some shocked
'Bout a sleazy preacher who found himself defrocked
The reason why his victims can tell
The young and the old as well
He trampled his own ordination vows
Loves to lie like a pig loves a sty
Prone to slander presbyteries
That don't let punks do as they please
His daddy's name he has worn thin
How long can daddy hide son's sin?
Members' children were shunned for their folks' dissent
Others have received such punishment
We wait in vain for apologies
That show at all sincerity
Blamin' others for his mess will R.C. be free?
In his mess why should you stay?
Why would you trust and be misled?
That man's evil ways have been made plain
Sycophant clamor will remain
Some crazy fans he will retain
Those turned off by his wayward ways
They will little miss his cruel displays
It's right that he be scorned and mocked
For livin' like the devil R.C. wound up defrocked
